Windowsで定番の軽量PDFリーダー FoxitReader のWindowsMobile/PocketPC対応版、Foxit Reader for Windows Mobileの新しいβ版(個人ライセンスで$19.99)が公開されています。

Foxit Reader for Windows Mobile is a PDF reader application for a variety of mobile devices, including Pocket PC, Smartphone and Windows CE. It supports Windows Mobile 2002/2003/5.0/6.0 and Windows CE 4.2/5.0/6.0.
It is specially built on Foxit Embedded PDF SDK, Foxit's new PDF rendering engine for mobile platforms. It contains all the key features of the SDK such as progressive parsing/rendering and out-of-memory (OOM) recovery. With these new techniques, Beta Version 0.98 is more stable, responsive and user-friendly compared with the previous version.
Here are some benefits that Beta Version 0.98 will bring to you:

  • Small memory consumption:
    It has optimized memory management, reducing the possibility of out-of-memory (OOM) problems and automatically trying to recover from OOM when it does occur.
  • Tap and drag:
    Tap and drag feature lets you move a PDF page in any direction quickly in order to locate the part that interests you.
  • Mini-map:
    Mini-map gives you an overview of a whole PDF page. It also lets you know the relative location of current window inside the whole PDF page. You may relocate the current window by tap-and-dragging inside the mini-map.
  • Chinese/Japanese/Korean support:
    It can properly display PDF documents containing Chinese/Japanese/Korean fonts.
  • Improved user interface (UI):
    Beta Version 0.98 has a simple and neat user interface with well-organized menus and tool buttons.

今回でようやくライセンス形態・値段も明示されています。
さらに今回のβ版は、Foxit Embedded PDF SDKという新しいレンダリングエンジンに基づいていて、安定性も増したとのこと。
そして、ようやく日本語対応も正式にアナウンスされていますね。(^-^A; 手元にある前のバージョンV0.9 Beta 0427でも日本語テキストは表示できるようになっていましたが、今回のβ版でも試した所、テキストの日本語も表示されました。ただやっぱり等幅フォント表示？になっちゃうのかな。動作について、軽いかどうかと聞かれると、うーん・・と思う所も(汗。
大きなPDFを開いたときにはどうなるのか、その辺りも気になるところです。
